Fruit, Veg & Herbs

There cannot be anything more satisfying than growing your own fruit, vegetables and herbs for healthy living and eating.  They can be picked straight from the plant and eaten fresh giving added flavour and nutrients.

Growing your own fruit and vegetables is one of the most satisfying pastimes. Whether you have your own plot or allotment or just a small space for containers, growing food to supplement your ‘five a day’ is extremely rewarding.

Wyatts carries a large range of soft and cane fruit that is best planted in the dormant period between November and March. As with tree fruit, soft fruit can also be grown in containers and most can be grown as restricted forms – espaliers and cordons – up walls and fences.
There’s a wide range of soft fruit types available all of which can be grown in just about any garden.

Fruits include raspberries, tayberries, loganberries, green and red gooseberries, blueberries (requires acid soil), strawberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, thornless blackberries and vines.

Wyatts offers a comprehensive growing programme to help you get the best results.

For those wishing to grow their own, Wyatts stocks a large variety of seeds, seed compost and growing pots/modules that can be purchased from inside the Farm Shop.  If you don’t have time to grow from seed, we sell a large selection of young vegetable plants from Spring to early Summer giving a helpful start to growing on your own vegetables.

We stock a wide range of herbs in pots that are perfect for growing in containers or planting in the ground to live outside once they are established.  Herbs that are suitable for planting inside or out include oregano, mint (usually invasive if not kept under control!), rosemary, thyme and sage.  Some tender herbs such as basil, coriander, French tarragon require frost free conditions.

Di in the Nursery is able to offer advice on the best herbs for containers and how to plant them up.  Herbs in containers make wonderful gifts and Di will be happy to help you select the right container and herbs.  On request, we also offer the additional service of potting up herbs in containers. If you wish to grow your own herbs from seed then please see our seed display in the Farm Shop.
